Happy Birthday Natey!

Nate turned 4 on June 8th. EVERY mom says this, but it's just true. It's unbelievable how fast time goes.

Age 4 is definitely up there as a favorite age. I miss his sweet innocent little baby self. I had some good times/memories with baby Nate. But independent/funny/weird Nate is so much more fun (and frustrating, but mostly fun). Today he wanted to leave the house to go to my parent's house so bad that when I said "buddy where's your other shoe?" he goes "I don't need shoes. It's no problem" hahahah!

At age 4 Nate is very loving and caring, quick to forgive, and amazing at sharing. I've never ever heard him complain when I say "Nate can you just share your ____ with Audrey?" He just does it. It's weird. Whenever we get mad at him he cries "mommy, but do you love me??" Sounds emotionally manipulative (it totally is) but what I think he is really trying to say is "mommy I don't want you to be mad at me, I want you to go straight to being your loving self again and not your mad self." And then if I get sad because of something he did he goes "but mommy, I just love you". He does NOT like it if I cry. At. All. The other day I was laughing at something I was reading and he was downstairs and he yells up "MOMMY! Are you crying???" (I should note, it's not like I cry all the time. Just occasionally). He loves his friends too. He's not perfect, he doesn't necessarily hesitate to throw the first punch at something he doesn't like, but he's quick to apologize and quick to forgive.

Right now he is really into "helping" or more like "experimenting". I left a bowl of homemade frosting out on the counter and I came home from work that night and spaghetti sauce had been added and mixed in. Today he grabbed a half used can of carrots out of the fridge "mommy, do you like hot carrots?" I answered yes, "ok I'm going to pour them into the pan and you can cook them". He's trying so hard to be helpful, but he has a hard time thinking things through. Also, the other day I was making waffles (more like a month ago) and I realized we were out of butter so I ran to the store. When I got back two eggs has been cleanly cracked into the bowl. Phil and his mom said that Nate ran over and told them he put the eggs into the bowl and they didn't believe him. I confirmed that I hadn't done it. There was no shell left whatsoever. Haha!

He's also getting SUPER good at reading. He doesn't even need to sound out some words he just reads it. Sometimes he tries to read a word he can't read well too fast and ends up thinking it's something else, but hey he's only 4. haha! It's a super helpful skill. I decided since he is so determined and curious that I'm going to put big signs around my kitchen that say ASK so he knows to come ask me before trying to do something himself. I think I need one on the front door too because he keeps going outside whenever he pleases and I just do NOT trust him to be out there by himself. I have a hook and eye for the door, but it's metal so I am trying some other options first before trying to hammer it in.

We sure do love our little buddy!!

Nate's Lyrics.

One thing I have loved about listening to the radio in the car is hearing Nate's version of songs. Here are a few I've been hearing lately:

Somebody That I Used to Know-Gotye:
"But you didn't have to cup me off, take a look at me happened and we were nothing. I don't even need your love, but you treat me like a stranger and it is so rough. No you didn't have to stoo so low, hab your friend collect your recas and then change your number. Guess that I don't need that door. Now you're just somebody that I used to know."

Real Version (as if you don't know)-
"But you didn't have to cut me off, make out like it never happened at that we were nothing. And I don't even need your love, but you treat me like a stranger and it feels so rough. No you didn't have to stoop so low. Have your friend collect your records and then change your number. Guess that I don't need that though. Now you're just somebody that I used to know."

We Are Young-Fun:
"Toniiiiigght we are yuuuu. So lets set the word on fi-e-yah, we can go bri-e-yah than the soooooooooo."

Real Version-
"Toniiiiiigght we are young. So let's set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the suuuuuun"

Little Talks-Of Monsters and Men
"Though the truth my buddy this ship will carry our bodies safe to share."

Real Version-
"Though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore"
